Fremont Area Historical Society

Background

The first meeting of the Fremont Area Historical Society was on August 27, 1998. The Society is regisistered with the Wisconsin State Historical Society. Meetings are on the last Monday of each month at 6:00pm in the Old Beaver Dam School (former Town of Fremont Town Hall), on Highway 96 in Fremont. The business meeting is followed by a program of a historical topic. Meetings are enjoyable and the public is welcome.

Goals

  1. Preservation/Research of the area including: Fremont, East Bloomfield, Metz, Hatton, Zittau, Orihula, Evanswood, and Gills Landing. They also support the recreation of the Yellow Stone Trail.
  2. Community involvement: They intend to continue the annual tradition of the Christmas tree lighting, and are willing to participate in any function in the area.
  3. Museum: About 90% of their artifacts were lost in a fire. They are in the process of rebuilding the collection of artifacts and pictures.
  4. Membership: They encourage anyone to join the Society who has an interest in the area history. Members are not required to be active to show their support. Non-members are more than welcome to attend a meeting to see what the Society is all about.
