Q. I want to build something on my property. Do I need a Land Use Permit or a Building Permit?
A. You may need both. Prior to starting your project, you will need to call the Waupaca County Zoning and Planning
Office first at (715) 258-6255. Before a permit can be issued, a fire number/property address must be obtained first.

Q. Is there a fee associated with Land Use Permits?
A. Yes, please contact Waupaca County Planning and Zoning Office at (715) 258 -6255 or refer to the website
www.waupacacounty-wi.gov/departments/planning_and_zoning for a current fee schedule. Fees double if your project
has been started and or completed before obtaining a building permit.

Q. If I own the land, can I build anything I want?
A. No. When you contact the county about your project, the first thing they will look at is what the property is zoned.
Not all projects are allowed in all zoning districts. It is important to check the Setbacks and Allowable Uses Table found

A. Some homebased businesses are allowed, some are allowed by obtaining a Conditional Use Permit. Please refer to

Q. Am I allowed to raise animals on my property?
A. Depending on how your property is zoned, a Conditional Use Permit from Waupaca County may be needed for raising
any animals (this includes but is not limited to: chickens, cows, ducks, goats, horses, rabbits,etc.) Please refer to
Waupaca County Chapter 34 Section 6. Animal Husbandry in certain zoning districts are also required to follow the
Animal Density Unit Standards.
Q. Do I need a Conditional Use Permit to raise chickens for my own use?
A. Contact Waupaca County Planning and Zoning at (715)258-6255 According to Waupaca County Section 6.10(2) “The
raising of chickens in the Rural Residential and the Rural Residential Overlay Districts is permitted without a
Conditional Use Permit but with the issuance of a Land Permit provided the following standards are met:
a. No more than six (6) chickens are allowed.
b. No Roosters are allowed.
c. The chickens must be provided with a fully enclosed shelter which meets the requires setback
distances for principal structures.
d. Chicken runs are allowed provided they meet the required setbacks for principal structures are fully enclosed
so as to not allow the chickens to escape.
e. Any butchering or slaughtering of chickens shall take place inside an enclosed shelter.
f. Onsite commercial sale of eggs is prohibited.

Q. Do I need a Conditional Use permit to raise horses?
A. Contact Waupaca County Planning and Zoning Office at (718)258-6255. Applicants must meet the minimum of (1)
suitable acre per horse or long term lease agreement for additional acreage. Property owners must also be able to
provide shelter consisting of a minimum (3) walls and a roof.

Q. Do I need a Conditional Use Permit for dogs or cats?
A. No, but all dogs over the age of five months need a rabies vaccination and a dog license by March 31, 2022 or when
they reach five months and one day. Please contact the Treasurer of the Town.

Building Permit

Q. Who should I contact to obtain a Building Permit?
A. Contact the Building Inspector Lee Robbert at (920) 820-2686 to determine if a building permit is needed for your
project. It is very important that you contact the building inspector prior to starting your project. Fees double if a
project is started prior to contacting the Building Inspector

Q. How much does a Building Permit cost?

Q. Why do I need a Building Permit?
A. Obtaining a Building Permit ensures that your project is completed according to Building Code standards. Depending
on the project, the building inspector will inspect the project after certain completions.

Q. Where do I need to display my Building Permit?
A. It is recommended that the Building Permit be displayed on a placard/ durable sign near the street so that the
inspectors can easily read it during the construction process.

Q. How long is a Building Permit valid?
A. A Building permit is valid for two years or until substantial work is done.

Q. My project will not be complete in two years. What do I do?
A. You must contact the Building Inspector to see about an extension.

Public Works

Q. What day will garbage and recycling be picked up?
A. Garbage is picked up on Thursday, It is recommended to leave can at the street Wednesday night. Recyclables are
picked up every fist and third Wednesdays.

Q. A tree has fallen on the road and is blocking a vehicle from passing. Who do I call?
A. Please call the Town Clerk or one of the Town Board Members; they can make arrangements to have the tree
removed.

Q. Who should I contact regarding a road issue or pothole?

Q. Where is the Police Department?
A. Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office located at 1402 Royalton, Waupaca provides police protection to our town. Call 911
for emergency or 715-258-4466 for non-emergency.

Q. Where is our Fire Department located?
A. Dale Fire and Rescue provides coverage for our entire town. The station is located at W9641 State Road 96, Dale. Call
911 in case of emergency.
